McAlpine Consulting for Growth began working with RVA in 2005, providing an organizational audit for the agency which was struggling with financial concerns. Laura helped assess 11 organizational capacity areas and develop immediate and long-term recommendations for improvement. She assisted RVA with making changes to the financial decision-making to better distribute funds to the capacity areas and avoid cash flow impairments. She conducted trainings with designated staff members and organizational representatives on understanding financial statements and analyzing key financial indicators to assist in the strategic planning of the organization. As a result, RVA reversed multi-year deficits and has gained fiscal stability.

Laura subsequently was hired to co-lead strategic planning in conjunction with Heather D. Parish, President of Strategies for Community Economic Development and Finance. This work culminated in a three year strategic plan, focused on infrastructure development, client services and visibility.

Rape Victim Advocates is a not-for-profit organization that works to assure that survivors of sexual assault are treated with dignity and compassion, and to affect changes in the way the legal system, medical institutions and society as a whole respond to survivors. Their focus is on both social service and social change.

“Our work with McAlpine Consulting helped us to understand the cycles of financial difficulties our agency had a history of experiencing. This depth of knowledge guided us in making significant changes to our infrastructure and program/fiscal oversight—changes that we feel confident will have lasting impact.”

Vicky DiProva, Rape Victim Advocates

“The Organizational Audit not only helped us to understand our agency’s program and performance, but to communicate it to the foundations and major donors who support our work. Our relationship, and their confidence in our agency, was strengthened. That’s invaluable.”

Camille Romero, Board President
